Our
Green Policy
We are very conscious of our own water and energy usage here
at Little Stables and hope guests will also respect and be aware
of their own consumption during their visit.

• In 2011 we instructed GREEN CLEAN to be our resident cleaner for the Stables Cottages. Launched in 2006, GREEN CLEAN is an Island-based cleaning service that uses only eco-friendly products and techniques, supporting our own green initiatives. They provide cleaning services to Island residents, holiday home owners and businesses. For more information on how you can ‘be green while they clean’ contact Julia on 01983 553547.
• Our dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer are all energy rated A. Literature in the cottage
encourages guests to use the washing machine on a 30 degree setting
to conserve energy.
• The Island recycling centre separates tins and cardboard from
our normal domestic waste and uses it in a pioneering gasification
plant which is now operational on the Isle of Wight. Details of
this process are found in the cottage information pack. We ask
that guests also separate newspaper and glass themselves and place
them in the black box provided.
• We also compost all green waste on the site – and ask that guests
use the green bin provided to collect raw vegetable and fruit matter,
plus egg boxes and shells.
• We have installed a treatment plant instead of the usual septic
tank as this has micro organisms living in the tank and they break
down and filter the sewerage enabling us to discharge only clean
water into the ground. This is more environmentally friendly with
no contamination to the ground. On this basis we try not to use
any strong chemicals or bleach and asks guests to use the Ecover
products provided.
• Ecover products are provided in the cottage, as well as a gentler
hand soap from Method (lovely natural scented hand wash in biodegradable
containers).
• Our cafe on site uses locally sourced produce where available,
and guests staying in the cottage are sent information about a
superb local food delivery service called ‘Real Island Food’ which
they can pre-order with prior to their arrival.
• The business at Chessell won Green Island Business of the Year
Award in 2006 for our efforts in improving our environmental activities,
and the cottage is rated Bronze 2007/8 from the Green Island Awards
Scheme.
